The EVAL-ADIS2 is a PC-based evaluation system that supports communication with most ADIS16xxx products, using the following block diagram.
The following picture identifies the key features associated with this evaluation system. Click on the image to access a larger view.
The following sequence of steps provides the quickest and most reliable process for setting up your EVAL-ADIS2 for operation on a PC.
Step #1: Set DUT Supply
JP1 provides three DUT power supply options: +3.3V, +5V and Ext (external supply).
Use the following table to identify the correct JP1 setting for the DUT:
JP1 = +3.3V | JP1 = +5V |
---|---|
ADIS16201, ADIS16203, ADIS16209, ADIS16210, ADIS16223, ADIS16227, ADIS16228, ADIS16445, ADIS16448, ADIS16460, ADIS16480, ADIS16485, ADIS16488A, ADIS16490 | ADIS16133, ADIS16135, ADIS16136, ADIS16137, ADIS16260, ADIS16265, ADIS16266, ADIS16300, ADIS16305, ADIS16334, ADIS16360, ADIS16362, ADIS16365, ADIS16367, ADIS16375, ADIS16400, ADIS16405, ADIS16407 |
External Supply Option
In order to use external supply option, remove the header from JP1 and solder the middle post to the hole that has the EXT label on the EVAL-ADIS2. The next revision of this board will move this hole so that this option will be available using the same header that connects to the +3.3V and +5V settings on JP1.
Then, connect the external supply to J3, using the following diagram to illustrate the correct connections:
Step #2: Connecting to the DUT
All ADIS16xxx (DUT) devices connect to the EVAL-ADIS2 through a breakout board. There are two different types of breakout boards, which identify with the type of connection that they make with the ADIS16xxx devices that they support:
1. Connectors (14-pin, 15-pin, 20-pin, 24-pin)
2. Solder-reflow (LGA, BGA)
The following table provides a summary of the most appropriate breakout board for each ADIS16xxx device, which uses a connector-based attachment approach. Click on the breakout board title to access specific steps for connecting the DUT to these boards.

Step #3:Connecting the Breakout Board to the EVAL-ADIS2
Each breakout board connects to the EVAL-ADIS2 through a 16-pin, 1mm ribbon cable, which connects to J1 on the EVAL-ADIS2.
Step #4: USB Driver Download and Installation
Download the USB driver for the EVAL-ADIS2 and store it in a convenient, temporary folder on the Test PC. Then, double click on this file. Answer all of the questions presented by the installation routine.

Step #6: Connect EVAL-ADIS2 to USB port on PC
Use a Mini USB cable to connect J2 (Mini USB connector) to a USB port on the PC. LED2 will light up very quickly and LED1 will take as long as 10 seconds to illuminate.
Step #7: Launch Evaluation Software
Double click on the executable file to launch the application software.
