ADRV9361-Z7035 Quick Start Guide

This Quick start guide is to provide users with a simplified, concise set of instructions for setting up ADRV9361-Z7035 on various SDR Module Carrier development boards. The ADRV9361-Z7035 is a development kit from Analog Devices that consists of a hardware platform (ZC7035 board) and a software package (HDL design, Linux BSP, and no-OS drivers) for the ADRV9361-SOM system-on-module (SOM). See Introduction to ADRV9361-Z7035 for further details.

Carrier Support

The ADRV9361-Z7035 supports all features on the ADRV1CRR-FMC carrier board. The ADRV9364-Z7020 supports a subset of features because the Zynq Z7020 has fewer available user I/Os. For the ADRV9364-Z7020 it is recommended to use the ADRV1CRR-BOB carrier.

ADRV1CRR-FMC ADRV1CRR-BOB

Required Software

Required Hardware

  • Xilinx ADRV9361-Z7035 board
  • Micro-USB 2.0 uart cable
  • Ethernet cable
  • Power supply connector
  • Laptop
  • OTG cable for USB keyboard, mouse and other peripherals (Optional)
  • HDMI compatible monitor (Optional)

Example Device Trees

Testing

All the products described on this page include ESD (electrostatic discharge) sensitive devices. Electrostatic charges as high as 4000V readily accumulate on the human body or test equipment and can discharge without detection.

Although the boards feature ESD protection circuitry, permanent damage may occur on devices subjected to high-energy electrostatic discharges. Therefore, proper ESD precautions are recommended to avoid performance degradation or loss of functionality. This includes removing static charge on external equipment, cables, or antennas before connecting to the device.

  • Connect the ADRV1CRR-FMC FMC board to ADRV9361-Z7035 board socket.
  • Connect USB UART (Micro USB 2.0) to your host PC/laptop.
    • (Optional) Connect HDMI cable to monitor.
    • (Optional) Connect OTG for keyboard, mouse and other peripherals.
  • Plug the Ethernet cable in ETHERNET 1 port in the FMC board then connect to network.
  • Connect power supply connector.
  • Insert micro sdcard into ADRV9361-Z7035 sd slot.
  • Turn on the power switch on the fmc board.
  • Open Teraterm and select serial port for terminal messages.
  • Observe kernel and serial console messages on your terminal.

IIO Oscilloscope Remote

Please see also here:Oscilloscope

The IIO Oscilloscope application can be used locally on Transceiver/Radio Boards. It has a feature of a graphical desktop environment remote using a network connection.

When using the remote option, once you logged in to the Linux terminal you need to check the IP address of the using the ifconfig command to see if there was any address assigned by a DHCP server. If not, you need to manually set an address with ifconfig in the same address space your PC is using.

Getting of IP address:

IIO OSC ADRV9361-Z7035-FMC Capture Window

The AD9361 is a high performance, highly integrated RF Agile Transceiver™. Its programmability and wideband capability make it ideal for a broad range of transceiver applications. The device combines an RF front end with a flexible mixed-signal baseband section and integrated frequency synthesizers, simplifying design-in by providing a configurable digital interface to a processor.

SDR module or board that contains the necessary RF (Radio Frequency) components and signal processing circuitry. FMC carrier is a hardware platform that can host an FMC card and provide access to its I/O interfaces and resources.

Shut down

Even thought this is Linux, this is a persistent file systems. Care should be taken not to corrupt the file system -- please shut down things, don't just turn off the power switch. Depending on your monitor, the standard power off could be hiding. You can do this from the terminal as well with sudo shutdown -h now
