AD-FMCDAQ3-EBZ Zynq ZCU102 Quick Start Guide

This guide provides some quick instructions (still takes awhile to download, and set things up) on how to setup the AD-FMCDAQ3-EBZ on ZCU102

Prerequisites

Required Hardware

  • Xilinx ZCU102 Rev 1.0 or later board
  • AD-FMCDAQ3-EBZ FMC board
  • An 8GB SD card
  • USB keyboard mouse and a Display Port compatible monitor
  • Ethernet cable
  • 1 x Micro-USB cable

Required Software

  • You need a Host PC (Windows or Linux)
  • A UART terminal (Putty/Tera Term/Minicom, etc.), Baud rate 115200 (8N1)
  • IIO Scope Download

Creating / Configuring the SD Card

In this case the root of 'BOOT' should contain:

  • An Image file for ZynqMP (from zynqmp-common folder)
  • A BOOT.BIN specific to your AD-FMCDAQ3-EBZ + ZCU102
  • A system.dtb for ZynqMP specific to your AD-FMCDAQ3-EBZ + ZCU102

Setting up the hardware (ZCU102)

You will need to:

  1. Insert the SD-CARD into the SD Card Interface Connector (J100)
  2. Connect the AD-FMCDAQ3-EBZ FMC board to the FPGA carrier HPC0 FMC0 socket
  3. Plug your Display Port monitor device into the Display Port Video Connector (P11)
  4. Plug your USB mouse/keyboard into the USB 2.0 ULPI Controller, w/Micro-B Connector (J83)
  5. Plug the Power Supply into 12V Power input connector (J52) (DO NOT turn the device on)
  6. Set the jumpers of SW6 - which controls the Boot Mode: 1: on, 2: off, 3: off, 4: off as seen in the below picturesw6_zcu102.jpg
  7. Turn it on
  8. Wait ~30 seconds for the “DONE” LED to turn green. This is near the SD Card Interface Connector

Although the boards feature ESD protection circuitry, permanent damage may occur on devices subjected to high-energy electrostatic discharges. Therefore, proper ESD precautions are recommended to avoid performance degradation or loss of functionality. This includes removing static charge on external equipment, cables, or antennas before connecting to the device.

Booting the SD Card

Local IIO Oscilloscope

  1. Ignore your PC, and now interact on the USB mouse/keyboard on the ZynqMP device
  2. You should see two screens:

Remote IIO Oscilloscope

  1. Disconnect the USB mouse/keyboard from the USB 2.0 ULPI Controller, w/Micro-B Connector (J83).
  2. Connect USB UART J83 (Micro USB) to your host PC.
  3. Plug your ethernet cable into the RJ45 ethernet connector(P12)
  4. Observe kernel and serial console messages on your UART terminal (use the first ttyUSB or COM port resisted)
  5. Run the ifconfig command on your UART terminal and get your board IP

  1. Open IIO Scope application and type ip:board_ip in the URI tab.

Even thought this is Linux, this is a persistent file systems. Care should be taken not to corrupt the file system -- please shut down things, don't just turn off the power switch. Depending on your monitor, the standard power off could be hiding. You can do this from the terminal as well with sudo shutdown -h now
